Page Box Jr.

RIPLEY, Tenn. – Page Box Jr., died at his home on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, after an extended illness. He was born in Aberdeen on Feb. 6, 1944, the son of Rev. Page and Grace Jones Box. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1962. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Ware, on July 3,1966, at First United Methodist Church, Aberdeen. They celebrated 43 years of marriage blessed with the birth of three children: John David, Jennifer Paige, and James (Jamie) Oliver.

He was a graduate of Mississippi State University with a bachelor of science and masters in agricultural economics. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Blue Key, ODK, the Maroon Band, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and served as Cadet Colonel of the Mississippi State University ROTC. After graduating from MSU, he was employed by Dow Chemical Company and then later worked for Elanco Chemical Company.

In 1973, he and his wife moved their family from Memphis to Lauderdale Co., Tenn., where he co-owned and operated the John Deer Tractor Company in Ripley, and later founded Page Box and Associates, in independent insurance agency. He operated the agency for 20 years until he retired in 2007.

Active in his community, he was president of the Tennessee Soybean Association, president of the Exchange Club, a member of First United Methodist Church, Rotary Club, the Masonic Order, the Shiners, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Arts Council.

Memorial services were held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Ripley, Tenn.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; his daughter, Jennifer and husband, Mike Hudson of Bartlett, Tenn.; two sons, John David Box and his wife, Sharon, of Jackson, and James Box and Rose of Montreal, Canada; five grandchildren, Jake and Sydney Warren of Bartlett, Tenn., Emily, Miriam, and Walker Box of Jackson; a sister, Elizabeth Box Price, and husband, John, of Park Hill, Okla.; a brother, David Oliver Box and wife, Nell, of Boulder, Colorado; an aunt, Mrs. Hilton (Billie) West of Prairie; nieces and nephews, Joyce Price of Austin Texas, Jonathan Price and wife, Sarah, of Austin Texas, Allison Wible and husband, Chad, of Denver, Colorado; Kristen Pearson and husband,Mark, of Austin, Texas; six grandnieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.

Memorials may be made in his memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Rd., Bethesda, Maryland 20814, and/or The Page and Grace Jones Box Memorial Scholarship, The Mississippi United Methodist Foundation, 581 Highland Colony Pkwy., Ridgeland, MS 39157-8784.

Hal Burroughs

ABERDEEN – Hal Donald Burroughs, 86, died Friday, August 7, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Monroe County to Thomas Lee Burroughs and Arey Tartt Burroughs Foote. He was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen. He retired as owner and operator of an auto body repair shop and used car dealership. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran of the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigne.

Services were at 11 a.m. Aug. 10 at the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen with Bro. Robert Secrist officiating. Burial was in the Oddfellows Rest Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one son, Terry Hal Burroughs (Gwen) of Aberdeen; three half brothers, Alvie Foote of Aberdeen and Jack Foote and Floyd Foote, both of Lepanto, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen Virginia “Top” Emory Burroughs; three brothers, Marvin Burroughs, Vance “Buddy” Burroughs and Landon Burroughs.

Pallbearers were J.R. Tate, Dennis Herndon, Eddie White, Charles White, Larry Hall, Alex Hall and Louis Burroughs. Honorary Pallbearers were all of his friends he served with in Battery B 580th AAA Battalion.

Bobby Joe Hughes

AMORY - Bobby Joe Hughes 78, dearly loved father, grandfather and brother passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009 at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory after a long illness. He was born January 14, 1931, in Amory to Cletus Edmond and Callie Ethel Ford Hughes. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1950. He married Ezra Irene Sheffield July 2, 1950. He and his wife, Irene, moved to Zion, Ill. He worked at American Motors in Kenosha, Wis., until his retirement in 1986. They moved to Amory in 1996. Bobby was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Waukegan, Ill.

Services were 1 p.m. August 11, 2009 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Burial was in the Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville.

Bobby leaves behind three daughters, Brenda (Gary) Degler and Patsy (Norman) Dreyer both of Amory, Dorothy Hughes (Scott Bandeko) of Camdenton, Mo.; three sons, Nicklos (Kathy) Hughes of Zion, Ill., Johnny (Darnell) Hughes of San Antonio, Texas, and Jerry Hughes of Amory; five granddaughters, Erica Hughes, Teri Lynn Hughes, Jennifer Hughes, Jessica Irene Harris and Brittany Taylor; eight grandsons, Jeffrey Degler, Michael Hughes, Jerry Hughes II, James Hughes, Ryan Hughes, Christopher Harris, Mark Dreyer and Chris Law; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Funderburk of Amory and Iuta Kreuser of Bella Vista, Ark..

Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ezra Irene Sheffield Hughes; his son, Richard G. Hughes; his parents, Cletus Edmond and Callie Ethel Ford Hughes; an infant sister, Lina Lee Hughes and his sister, Bonnie Mae Carpenter; five brothers, Ronald (Runt), William Arnold (Bill), Russell, Donald and Jack Hughes.

Pallbearers were his grandsons Jeffrey Degler, Michael Hughes, Jerry Hughes II, James Hughes, Ryan Hughes and Christopher Harris.

Coy Morris

ABERDEEN - Coy Laymon Morris, 80, died Sunday, August 9, 2009, at the Pioneer Hospital in Aberdeen. He was born May 20, 1929, to William Lon Morris and Zadie Bell Tubbs Morris of Hatley. He was a retired Monroe County Employee.

Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at the Hatley Cemetery with Robert Earl Fowlkes officiating. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Jimmie Ann Burks (Andy) of Amory; two sons, Robert Morris and C.L. Morris (Mary); one sister, Aileen Hood; and one brother, Gene Morris, all of Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Eugene Gray Morris; his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.

Pallbearers were Mark Morris, Ferrell Morris, David Matthews, Doug Brewer, Thomas Rowell, James Gray and David Gray.
