Jackie Humphreys-Scott
PEARL – Newell Blanche “Jackie” Humphreys-Scott of Germantown, Tenn., and recently residing in Pearl, passed away suddenly due to a heart attack on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009.
Born July 2, 1925, in Vernon, Ala., Jackie comes home to rest near those who were loved and who have passed. Jackie was a daughter of the late Grady and Callie Hester Humphreys. She attended schools in the Vernon and Lackey communities, graduating in 1943.
She was united in marriage to Jimmy Blake “J.B.” Scott, who preceded her in death.
Jackie retired from Zayre Corporation as a Senior Customer Service Representative. She has enjoyed writing poetry since her early teen years. Jackie has received recognition for her lyrical style and has been published in a number of poetry journals. Songs that made her cry were not to her liking, therefore, pervasive in her poetry is humor and a twist of fun. Her perseverance, courage, devotion and dedication to those she has loved is a legacy our family will treasure. Her poetry, stories and our admiration of her amazing qualities as a person will remain with us always. She enjoyed her family and friends, reading, graphic editing on the computer and talking on the phone. Her entertainment was going on excursions to various casinos in Mississippi and locations all over the United States. She had ventured as far as the Bahamas to play her favorite machines, enjoy the people she met, the food, the sights and atmosphere found there. Her spirit of gentleness, warmth and sincerity uniquely touched each person she met wherever she traveled. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother who has shown unconditional love, care and concern to each member of her family. We will thank her everyday for the gifts of love and sense of family. She will be near to us in our hearts, as we all were in hers. She is dearly loved and will be truly missed by all.
Jackie is survived by her children: daughter, Callie Sandra Scott-Glidewell, Palm Coast, Fla., and son, Jerry D. Scott, Pearl; one son-in-law, George W. Glidewell; one daughter-in-law, Darlene Scott; five grandchildren, Lesli Glidewell, Shannon Glidewell, Brett Glidewell, Erin Glidewell and Jacqueline Sizemore; three great-grandchildren, Haley Sizemore, Katie Glidewell and William Glidewell; two sisters, Lela Smith and Mary Hunter; one brother-in-law, Noah Smith; nieces and nephews.
